Keeping you Family safe with First Alert

Collaborations

Thank you First Alert for sponsoring this post. Help ensure your home and family is protected with CO alarms!

The first time I heard about carbon monoxide poisoning was shortly after I had my first baby. Ever since then it’s been something that has scared me and been in the back of my mind. Throughout the years I’ve heard many heartbreaking stories about families that were affected by CO in their homes, and others that are grateful they saw the early signs and got safely out of their homes in time. I knew it was something I needed to think about more seriously to help keep me and my growing family safe from this deadly gas.

Carbon monoxide is nicknamed “the silent killer” https://clvr.li/FA_knowco because you can’t see it, hear it, or smell it. It’s responsible for an average of 430 deaths and more than 50,000 ER visits a year, ranking it the #1 cause of accidental deaths in the US. Thankfully there are easy ways to safeguard your family. Along with a CO alarm, First Alert has a few suggestions to help keep you protected.

-Have your furnace, dryer vent, and chimney professionally serviced every year according to the manufacturer’s instructions

-Never leave a car running in an attached garage

-Do not use generators, gas-powered tools, or grills inside your home

-Replace your CO alarm batteries every six months

-Test your CO alarms regularly

Like a smoke detector, this CO alarm will sound if it detects dangerous levels of of CO in your home. That’s why I love this portable CO detector that doesn’t require hard wiring or installation. It can easily be placed anywhere in your home and has a battery that lasts for 10 years!!! That’s the best piece of mind.

Did you know that it is recommended to have one of these on each level of your home as well as inside every bredroom? This is something I just learned. I assumed if you just had one in your home that it was more than enough, but it’s not. I think it is also important to know the signs of CO poisoning so you can take quick life-saving action if needed.

-Mild Exposure: Slight headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue (Flu-like symptoms)

-Medium Exposure: Throbbing headache, drowsiness, confusion, fast heart rate

-Extreme Exposure: Convulsions, unconsciousness, heart and lung failure

I am happy to be teaming up with First Alert to help spread awareness about carbon monoxide safety. It’s something that is always in the back of my mind, especially during the winter season when we use our gas powered appliances more than any other time of the year. If you want to learn more please click on this link for information for CO alarms and how to help keep your family safe from this “silent killer”  https://clvr.li/FA_knowco  I’m so glad I educated myself about CO. Now I can sleep better knowing I have done everything I can to keep my family safe!

Bedroom Update With HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams

It’s a new year and I’m ready for a little refresh!! New paint is one of my favorite ways to give new life to a space without having to spend a bunch of money on a full room remodel. You can transform your room in just a weekend with a few gallons of paint. I fell in love with the HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams 2020 Color Collection of the Year, Simply Blissful. I wanted to do something a little more bold so I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and picked 3 colors from this collection that weren’t grey. Can you believe it?! The result is something I’m so excited about!

The shiplap wall in our master bedroom is one of my favorite feature walls and I wanted to try something a little unexpected. When I saw the color Blue Endeavour (HGSW1451) I instantly knew it would be the perfect moody color for this wall.

I wanted this color to be the focal point of the room so I painted the rest of the walls with Fundamental White (HGSW4001). It’s the perfect bright white and a wonderful contrast to the Blue Endeavour (HGSW1451), giving the room a clean, crisp feel while letting the blue be the show stopper!

Next, we moved on to our master bathroom. We originally had a dark grey color in here. I really wanted to brighten up the space but still have it compliment the new colors in our bedroom. I landed on the Gristmill Greige (HGSW2485). It’s the perfect compliment to the throw pillows on my bed and ties both spaces together perfectly!

I couldn’t be happier with how my bedroom/bathroom update turned out. These three paint colors from the HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams Simply Blissful Color Collection are perfect together and completely take the guess work out of picking your colors. You can choose your pallet with confidence knowing that all these colors will work well together and give you a designer inspired look every time! The end result turned out even better than I had imagined!!

Living Room Re-Fresh with RC Willey

Design Tips

Our living room is the most used space in our home so it only makes sense that we make it the most loved space as well. There were a few things that were very important for me to achieve in this space. First, there had to be enough comfortable sitting for my family of 7! Second, it had to be beautiful as well as functional, which is the tricky part. I also felt our living room was a bit dark so it was important for me to lighten the space up. Once I had an idea of what was important I went shopping at my favorite furniture store RC Willey

Within a few minutes I found exactly what I was looking for! The beautiful Griffin Sectional Sofa It checked all the boxes! It had beautiful style and light color to brighten up the room, and lots of seating for my family, something our previous set up was lacking.
Once I had the sofa picked out it was time to design the rest of the room around it. My favorite section at RC Willey is the Magnolia Home line. I pretty much love everything in the collection so I knew I would find just what I wanted! I ended up picking the Magnolia Coffee Table and matching Magnolia End Table I love the style of these pieces and the wood top is so unique!
I couldn’t be happier with how my living room re-fresh turned out. This space is now so light, bright and inviting! Plus it fits my whole family making is perfect for movie nights!

My entryway is one of my favorite places to decorate because it’s the first thing you see when you walk in my home! I love having a statement piece here and this Sign is so perfect!
This year I did something a little different and I used real preserved greenery for my railing. It is so beautiful and it smells amazing!! I found the carved wood Santa and glitter wood trees at my favorite local store, Rod Works!

We have a tradition of decorating our kids’ bedrooms for Christmas each year and they get so excited about it. In my boys’ room I added a pop of red with some fun pillows and ornaments on their tree.

Laundry Room Makeover

DIY Projects

I have always loved the idea of having a pretty laundry room. I used to see them all the time on Instagram and Pinterest and thought that one day I would transform my plain, ugly laundry room into something I was proud of. Well last week I made that transformation and I couldn’t be happier! No joke, I actually enjoy doing laundry now, and I find myself looking for things to wash just so I can hang out in there, haha! Come see what we did to make this space beautiful and functional!

The first thing we did was clear everything out, including our old washer and dryer, so we could have a blank space to get the design juices flowing!
Before

Once I figured out my design it was time to get started!! We took down the basic shelf that was installed by our builder and replaced it with beautiful gray wall cabinets! They are much more attractive and give me so much more storage, total win win!

The next thing we did was take some left over peel and stick tiles from another project and put them on the back wall behind the washer and dryer. I didn’t love the original color of these tiles so I did a dry brush technique and painted them white, giving them the look and feel of white washed brick!

We had an open space next to the washer that I thought would be a perfect laundry folding station, so we installed a matching base cabinet. It has been the best use of space!

The last things we installed were a wood countertop for the base cabinet, and a set of floating shelves between the wall cabinets. This was a super budget friendly project because we used project boards that look similar to butcher block, but cost less than $20 each. Lastly we stained them to match and added a coat of polyurethane!

The biggest and most exciting change we made was the addition of a new washer and dryer set from Samsung. These things make doing laundry a breeze! They are front loaders each with a smaller washer and dryer on top for small loads and delicates. You can literally do 2 loads of laundry at one time, now that’s my kind of laundry!!

Electric FlexDry Dryer with Steam in Black Stainless

Finally, my favorite part, decorating the room! I kept it pretty simple with a fun wood laundry sign, a letter board, some jars, and a little greenery! This project has been one of my favorites and I’m so excited to finally have the pretty laundry room I have always wanted!!

Fall Home Tour

Seasonal Decor

Thanks for coming over from Grace In My Space blog!!

Fall is one of my favorite seasons and this year I had so much fun decorating my home, including my twins’ bedroom!! (they loved it so much this may become an annual thing) This year I was drawn to this gorgeous mustard yellow and pops of gold. They were the center of my decor, and because my home has a neutral color pallet, it was easy to add in a pop of seasonal color with minimal changes! I hope you enjoy my Fall Home Tour!

Entryway

My Fall entryway was probably my favorite spot I put together this year!!
Links for this space below

The faux plants are from Hobby Lobby and the grey bins are from Home Goods. The ladder is from Decor Steals but it’s sold out at the moment. All other items are no longer available or are from local boutiques.

Kitchen

In my kitchen I kept it pretty simple. I added a seasonal wreath and some faux florals in that mustard color I’m loving. Then I added in one of my favorite fall candles and it instantly had all the fall feels!
Links for this space below

The faux florals are from Hobby Lobby.

Dining Room

In our formal dining room I did a fun tablescape with 2 types of garlands and different height candles. This ended up being really budget friendly because I used some old candle holders and painted them all black to match!

My husband and I built the table, benches, and side table. The lamps are from Hobby Lobby a few years ago and the sign is from Harper Grace

Guest Room

In our guest room I have a very neutral color pallet, so adding in some pops of mustard with the throw pillows, blanket, and garland brought in all the cozy fall feels!

My husband and I built the headboard. The windows are vintage and the sign has been discontinued.

Living Room

In our living room I dressed up the fireplace with these beautiful fall wood signs and a pop of mustard with the garland! I brought in a few fun pillow covers for a seasonal change and I’m so happy with how it turned out!

My sofas are from RC Willey and the coffee table is no longer available.

Twins Bedroom

My twins got such a kick out of me adding fall feels in their room! It was easy with some cute pumpkins. Changing out their pillows and throw blankets also gave it just the right touch!

Bedding and Blankets (Use Code: GREYBIRCH20 to save 20%)

My husband and I built the beds. The lockers are form Hobby Lobby and the trunks are vintage army footlockers. I found the pumpkins at the dollar spot at Target.

Sunroom

In our sunroom I put together a fun tablescape with pops of mustard and apples as my inspiration!

My husband and I built the table. The rug is from Ruggable The vases are from RC Willey and the florals are from Kirklands

Master Bedroom Makeover

Design Tips

This month I have been working to update my master bedroom. I have had the same bedroom set for the past 12 years! It has seen better days so it was the first thing to go! I loved the black wood bed we had for so long, but I wanted something softer that would also make a statement in my room!
Before

After I had an idea of what I wanted I headed over to check out Overstock to see what they had. That’s when I found my dream bed!! I knew it was perfect the moment I saw it. It was large, striking, and the statement piece I was looking for. The tufted upholstered headboard also gave it that softness I wanted!

After I picked out the bed, I found the perfect bedding and changed out some of the decor for a brand new master bedroom update!!
I’m always so impressed with the selection and prices that Overstock has, and this bed is a perfect example of that! I have seen similar beds like this for double the price at other popular retailers.
Check out this link for more info on my new bed!
